About Golden Sands Aussies
We believe dogs are one of God's greatest gifts!
My love of Aussies began 26 years ago, when I bought home a gorgeous black-tri pup named Boaz who loved us in a wildly enthusiastic way with his whole body, mind and soul, who was always faithful, happy, quick to learn, and ready to go. I learned this breed was easy to train, eager to please, athletic, focused and fun. Since then dogs have been a huge part of our family's life. I believe the connection between human and dog is profound and special. We have been dog breeders for several years. It is a joy to match good owners with amazing puppies! Our kennel name is Khesed which is a Hebrew word meaning "loving loyalty" or "loving faithfulness". It is a word that aptly describes the personality of these amazing dogs.
About
Australian Shepherds
Every dog is special and unique, but breeds have certain characteristics. Australian Shepherds require owners who understand them and are willing to put the time and effort into bringing out the best in each wonderful puppy. Great owners produce great pups. So before you decide you want an Aussie, its is important to be well informed about the commitment you are undertaking. Here are some links to information about Aussies:
Before you consider an Aussie ...
Aussies are a great medium size, they are athletic, intelligent, loyal, easy to train and eager to please. They are amazing family dogs. But Aussies do not fit into every home. It takes a committed person to be a great owner and our pups only go to great owners. If you are interested in taking one of our pups home, then before contacting us please consider seriously if you are willing to commit to the following:
Australian Shepherds are athletic and intelligent dogs and need to be challenged and stimulated mentally and physically in order to be happy and not to grow bored. As adults they require about an hour of outdoor exercise every day: hiking, walking, running, frisbee, fetch, training etc.
Australian Shepherds bond very closely to their humans and they need to be feel they are part of the family. They need to be indoor dogs who can be close to their person for a good part of their days. They do not do well if they are left on their own.
Australian Shepherds are great with kids but their owner needs to be an adult who is dedicated to taking excellent care of the pup every single day.
A pup can only be as good as their owner. All new owners should commit to taking their puppy to a series of positive-reinforcement based obedience classes during the first year. This provides the double benefit of owners learning how to train well, and the pup learning good manners at the same time.
